Scientists say eight huge cities and 100m people in danger of asteroid heading towards Earth

Scientists warn that asteroid 2024 YR4, dubbed a 'city killer,' poses a higher risk of colliding with Earth than any other asteroid in recent history. Currently moving away from Earth, the 100-meter-wide asteroid could return by 2032, with a 3.1% chance of impact, affecting eight major cities, including Bogotá, Lagos, Mumbai, and Dhaka, putting 110 million lives at risk. NASA estimates the asteroid could unleash an explosion equivalent to 7.7 megatonnes of TNT, potentially striking areas spanning the Pacific Ocean, South America, the Atlantic Ocean, and Africa.
