A study in PNAS Nexus found that tree depictions in art by artists like Da Vinci and Mondrian follow the mathematical principles of natural tree branching, specifically the scaling of branch thickness (α), which falls within the same range (1.5 to 2.8) as real trees. This hidden math may help viewers recognize abstract artwork as depictions of trees.
