Sewage overflows ‘not good enough’, boss of North West water supplier says

The chief executive of United Utilities said pollution incidents were not something that could be fixed ‘instantly’.

United Utilities' CEO, Louise Beardmore, acknowledges that sewage overflows are inadequate and cannot be resolved quickly, especially with extreme weather. The company faces trust issues after being accused of failing to report over 100 million liters of sewage dumped into Lake Windermere. Beardmore, who earned £1.4 million last year, mentions infrastructure upgrades and addressing climate change impacts but admits their performance is lacking, with high internal sewer flooding rates.
