Sexual misconduct allegations in UN missions topped 100 in 2024, UN says

A U.N. report says allegations of sexual abuse and exploitation in U.N. peacekeeping and political missions topped 100 for the third time in the last 10 years in 2024

In 2024, sexual misconduct allegations in UN missions exceeded 100, marking the third time in a decade. Peacekeeping missions accounted for 82% of allegations, primarily in Congo and the Central African Republic. 65 allegations involved women seeking child support after reporting rape and giving birth. Secretary-General Guterres reported 125 victims, including 27 children, and highlighted efforts to combat sexual abuse since 2017, despite a survey revealing some staff find paying for sex acceptable.
