SoftBank Group will acquire Ampere Computing, a semiconductor designer, in a $6.5 billion all-cash deal. Ampere will operate as a wholly-owned subsidiary, with Carlyle and Oracle selling their stakes. The acquisition aims to strengthen SoftBank's AI infrastructure capabilities. Ampere, founded by Renee James, develops ARM-based server chips and its customers include Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud. The deal is expected to close in the second half of 2025.
