‘Spice bag’ and ‘morto’ among new words added to Oxford English Dictionary

Term for popular takeaway credited to establishment in Templeogue, Dublin



The Oxford English Dictionary added several new words and phrases, including Hiberno-Irish terms like "spice bag," "morto," "mineral," "debs," and "ludraman," along with the Irish use of "class" (popularized outside Ireland by Derry Girls). "Spice bag" is defined as a takeaway meal with chips, chicken, and spices, originating in Dublin in 2006. Other additions include "grawlix" and the idiom "one has made one's bed and must lie in it."
