Over the course of three years, five Bulgarian individuals, assisted by a host of others, carried out sophisticated surveillance on British soil and fed secrets back to their Russian handler, writes Holly Evans



A UK-based Bulgarian spy ring, directed by a Russian handler, conducted sophisticated surveillance in Britain for three years using hidden cameras in items like Coke bottles, Minion toys, and "spy ties." Five individuals were involved in the "largest spying investigation" that British counterterrorism services have seen, utilizing advanced spyware and over 2,000 items, to spy "on an almost industrial scale on behalf of the Russian state and Russian intelligence". Their targets included investigative journalist Roman Dobrokhotov.
