STDs on the rise across the UK as Gen Z increasingly refuse to wear condoms

As STD rates have risen across Britain, safe sex experts point towards troubling changes in contraception trends linked to conservatism and miseducation online

STD rates in the UK have risen, with Gen Z increasingly avoiding condom use. Gonorrhoea cases have increased by 7.5%, and only 15% of the UK population bought condoms between 2023 and 2024. A third of 15-year-olds report not using condoms or contraceptive pills during recent sexual activity. Experts attribute the rise to reduced testing, lower condom use, and increased reliance on long-acting contraceptives, which don't prevent STDs. Condoms remain 98% effective in preventing disease when used correctly. Gen Z's reluctance to use condoms is linked to shame and embarrassment, compounded by conservative cultural shifts and online misinformation.
