Stirling councillors vote to give themselves huge 40 per cent wage rise

Senior councillors at Stirling Council voted to give themselves a massive 40 per cent wage rise just weeks after hitting residents with an almost nine per cent hike in council tax.

Stirling Council's Labour and Tory councillors voted to increase their own salaries, with senior councillors receiving a 40% raise (from £26,686 to £37,548) and the council leader's salary rising to £50,063. Basic councillor pay will increase by 21.7% to £25,982. This decision followed an 8.8% council tax increase for residents. An SNP amendment to limit increases and remove a senior councillor role failed. An Independent councillor proposed a 3% increase, similar to council staff, with savings going to council reserves.
