Syrians begin fasting during first Ramadan without Assad family rule in decades

Some restaurants and coffee shops in Syria were closed during the day as observant Muslims began fasting during the holy month of Ramadan

Syrians marked the first Ramadan without Assad family rule in decades, with some businesses closing during the day as observant Muslims began fasting. The fall of President Bashar Assad's government, led by the Islamist group HTS, brought changes to public behavior during the holy month. The interim religious affairs minister described the Ramadan as one of victory and liberation. In other regions, countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, and Kuwait began observing Ramadan, while others, including Lebanon and Gaza, marked the month amidst ongoing conflicts and fragile ceasefires.
