After a 13-year closure due to the Syrian civil war, Germany has reopened its embassy in Damascus three months after the ousting of dictator Bashar al-Assad. Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock reopened the embassy, though it's not yet fully operational or able to provide consular services to German citizens, with visa services still handled by the Beirut embassy. Germany has pledged €300 million for Syrian reconstruction and plans to have a small number of diplomats working on stabilization efforts.
