The Mother Mac's Massacre: A chilling boast and an unspeakable tragedy

Landlord Arthur Bradbury slaughtered five people, including his wife and three children, before burning down his backstreet pub in one of Manchester's most notorious crimes

In 1975, Arthur Bradbury became the landlord of Mother Mac's pub in Manchester. He made a chilling boast referencing a massacre before a fire at the pub resulted in multiple deaths, including those of Allison Bradbury, Ann Hennegan and Maureen Bradbury. Bradbury was suspected of involvement in a previous robbery at the pub, and a stock deficit was found after the fire. Mother Mac's was rebuilt and reopened, later displaying newspaper clippings about the tragic event. The pub closed in 2022.
