The six best EVs that dodge Rachel Reeves' electric car tax raid from April

The Chancellor's car tax sting on EVs from 1 April will have major cost implications for buyers of new battery cars costing over £40k. Here's six of the best options below that price point.

From April, UK electric vehicle owners will face new car tax charges. Existing EV owners will pay a standard annual rate of £195. New EVs purchased from April 1st, 2025, costing £40,000 or more, will incur an additional £425 annual "expensive car supplement" for five years, totaling £2,125. Some EV manufacturers are adjusting prices to stay below the £40,000 threshold. The Hyundai Inster is highlighted as a top electric city car under £40k, and the Renault 5 E-Tech as a top electric supermini under £40k.
