The Department of Education is investigating UMass Amherst, American University, Scripps College, and Yale University for alleged antisemitic activity and discrimination involving shared ancestry under Title VI of the Civil Rights Act. The investigation follows a complaint filed against UMass Amherst regarding a student attacking a Jewish student. UMass Amherst states the alleged assailant was arrested, barred from campus, and is no longer enrolled, and that the university does not tolerate discrimination based on national origin. The DOE previously warned 60 universities, including UMass Amherst, about potential enforcement actions if they fail to protect Jewish students.
