TOM UTLEY: Why I'll no longer need that WWI gas mask I wore to change my son's nappy if I'm called on to do the same for my grandchildren

TOM UTLEY: One of the strangest presents we've ever been given was a World War I gas mask, in its original cylindrical canister, presented to us in 1990 for our 10th (tin) wedding anniversary.



Tom Utley received a WWI gas mask as a gift and used it to tolerate changing his son's diapers. While he still dislikes certain things, he believes he's become less squeamish over time and could now likely change a grandchild's diaper without needing the mask, though he might keep it handy just in case.
