Transgender activists expressed anger after the National Park Service (NPS) removed references to 'transgender' from the Stonewall National Monument's website, changing the designation from LGBTQ+ to LGB. The monument, designated by former President Barack Obama, commemorates the 1969 Stonewall Uprising. Critics, including Greenwich Village council member Erik Bottcher and New York Governor Kathy Hochul, argued that the omission erases transgender contributions to the LGBTQ+ rights movement. Bottcher emphasized that transgender individuals were integral to the Stonewall Rebellion, and removing their mention was shameful. Activist Randy Wicker also criticized the decision, calling it frightening.
