Trump administration deported Venezuelan asylum seeker over Real Madrid tattoo, court documents say

ICE has baselessly accused immigrants who fled torture of being members of the gang they escaped, lawyers say

The Trump administration deported a Venezuelan asylum seeker, Barrios, based on a Real Madrid tattoo, which ICE allegedly misinterpreted as a gang affiliation. Barrios, along with other Venezuelan immigrants with no criminal records, were deported to El Salvador despite pending asylum claims and upcoming court dates. Attorneys allege ICE targeted Venezuelans for tattoos, regardless of their meaning, associating them with the Tren de Aragua gang. A judge temporarily blocked further deportations under the Alien Enemies Act and questioned the administration, which conceded many deportees lacked criminal records but claimed this highlighted their terrorist risk. The administration is appealing the injunction.
