Trump blasts NATO’s usefulness, says U.S. won’t defend ‘delinquent’ members

Trump questioned if allies would come to the defence of the U.S. in the event of an attack on America, which NATO did after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.

President Trump criticized NATO's effectiveness, threatening to withhold U.S. defense support for members not meeting the 2% GDP defense spending target, while NATO officials reaffirmed U.S. commitment but stressed the need for burden-sharing among allies.
