Trump to sign order designating English as official language of US

This will mean agencies and groups that get federal funding will no longer have to offer language help to non-English speakers.

President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order designating English as the official language of the United States. This order will allow government agencies and organizations that receive federal funding to decide whether to continue offering services and documents in languages other than English. It rescinds a 1990 mandate by former President Bill Clinton requiring such services for non-English speakers. The White House states the measure aims to promote unity and efficiency. Over 30 states have already designated English as their official language.
