‘Two days ago he hugged me...now he’s dead’: Woman’s horror as family friend, 20, stabbed to death in Hackney

Police and paramedics tried to save the victim’s life on Bodney Road just before 6pm on Tuesday

A 20-year-old man, Jason Junior Romeo, known locally as 'LD', was stabbed to death in Hackney, east London. Police were called to Bodney Road after reports of an altercation, and Romeo was pronounced dead at the scene. Two men, aged 23 and 25, were arrested on suspicion of murder. A family friend described Romeo as vulnerable and expressed shock over his death, calling him a good kid who didn’t deserve it. The stabbing occurred near Pembury Nursery and Pre-School, and a large police cordon was set up in the area. This is the fifth fatal stabbing in London this year, with four victims being adult males and one a 14-year-old boy. Hackney has recently seen a series of violent incidents, including the deaths of Pharrell Garcia and Lianne Gordon. The Home Office has announced new anti-knife crime measures, including increased police presence and stricter penalties for knife sales, inspired by Ronan’s Law.
