Unions warn about effect on vital services after Chancellor confirms job cuts

FDA general secretary Dave Penman said a 10% cut in the entire salary bill of the Civil Service could mean up to 50,000 jobs may be cut.

Unions warn that planned Civil Service cuts of 15%, confirmed by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, could lead to 50,000 job losses and harm vital public services. Reeves aims to reduce "back office functions" to cut costs, but union leaders argue that previous cuts have already impacted frontline services and that these new cuts will further disadvantage both civil servants and the public.
