Up and over to Down Under: Qantas plan Sydney to London nonstop via the North Pole

Exclusive: CEO Vanessa Hudson tells The Independent: ‘We won’t need to fly over Russia’

Qantas plans to launch nonstop Sydney to London flights in early 2027 using Airbus A350s, potentially flying over the North Pole. The route avoids Russian airspace when necessary, utilizing wind patterns for optimal speed. The first aircraft enters production in September, with delivery expected in late 2026. Initially, the flight will connect Sydney with either London or New York. Passengers are expected to pay a 20% premium for the nonstop service.
