Urgent warning over surge in killer Victorian disease that makes patients cough up blood

Officials warn that unless recent increases are reversed Britain could lose it's low status for the contagious infection which kills one in six people it infects globally.

The UK is experiencing a surge in tuberculosis (TB) cases, potentially losing its "low incidence" status. A UKHSA report shows an 11% rise in TB cases in 2023, with a further 13% increase suggested for 2024. Experts attribute the rise to increased social mixing, international travel, and changing migration patterns. Other infectious diseases are also on the rise, including measles and whooping cough, placing a significant strain on the NHS.
