U.S. attendees’ fear of travel threatens attendance at B.C. trans history conference

The chair of transgender studies at UVic is worried about attendance at this year's Moving Trans History Forward conference, with expectations of a 40 per cent drop in numbers.



Fear of returning to the U.S. under the Trump administration, particularly after an executive order defining sex as immutable and aligned with biological classification at birth, is expected to significantly reduce attendance (by approximately 40%) at the Moving Trans History Forward conference in British Columbia. This is due to concerns about U.S. travel documents aligning with current gender identity and the general climate of transphobia.
