US displaced China as Germany's biggest single trading partner last year

The United States was Germany’s biggest single trading partner last year for the first time since 2015, displacing China from the top spot as exports to the Asian power declined



The United States surpassed China as Germany's largest trading partner in 2023 for the first time since 2015, according to official figures. Trade between Germany and the US increased by 0.1% to €253 billion, while trade with China dropped by 3.1% to €246.3 billion. Germany's trade surplus with the US grew to €70 billion from €63.3 billion in 2023, while its trade deficit with China widened as exports to China fell by 7.6% to €90 billion. German exports overall declined by 1.2% to €1.56 trillion, reflecting a challenging economic environment and increased competition from Chinese companies.
