Use of DNA evidence for Irish passport applications is under review

Passport Service does not routinely accept DNA evidence as proof of entitlement to Irish citizenship



The Irish Passport Service is reviewing its policy on the use of DNA evidence for passport applications. Currently, DNA evidence is not routinely accepted as proof of Irish citizenship, only in exceptional cases after other avenues have been exhausted and additional documentary evidence is provided. Passport issuance has increased in recent years, with over a million passports issued last year.
