Welfare reform will push 250,000 into poverty, Government’s own assessment says

Charities had already reported a surge in calls and visits to their advice pages following a welfare reform announcement last week.



A government assessment indicates Rachel Reeves' welfare reforms will push 250,000 more people, including 50,000 children, into relative poverty by 2029/30. The reforms are projected to reduce spending by £4.8 billion, with concerns raised that changes are driven by fiscal targets, and negatively impacting carers benefits.
