We’ll engage all stakeholders to prioritise gender equality – Mahama

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to eradicating discrimination and fostering an inclusive society where all individuals can fully and equally participate in social, economic, and political life.

President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to promoting gender equality in Ghana. During his State of the Nation Address on February 27, 2025, he emphasized the government's plan to collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize gender equality, equity, and social justice. Key initiatives include the full implementation of the 2024 Affirmative Action Act, aiming for a 30% quota for women in political appointments. Currently, women hold 23.21% of such roles. The government also plans to establish the Women’s Development Bank to support women-led businesses through low-interest loans. Additionally, President Mahama highlighted the need for constitutional reforms to encourage more women to pursue local governance positions. These efforts align with the administration's broader goal of fostering an inclusive society.
