Up to 300,000 customers were set to fly through Europe’s busiest and largest airport on Friday
A fire at an electrical substation in Hayes, five miles from Heathrow Airport, caused the airport to close for over 15 hours, disrupting 1,351 flights and affecting thousands of passengers. The fire, involving 25,000 litres of cooling oil, was tackled by 70 firefighters. The cause of the transformer fire is still under investigation. The incident also caused power cuts for around 67,000 households.
