A draft of President Trump's updated travel ban list includes Bhutan as a "red" country, subject to an immediate ban, which is unexpected due to Bhutan's small size, political neutrality, and focus on Gross National Happiness and environmental sustainability. While the reason for the inclusion is unclear, it may be due to concerns about "irregular migration patterns" from Bhutan and "national security concerns." Bhutan's past "One Nation, One People" policy, which led to displacement and persecution of non-Druk Buddhists, particularly Nepali-speaking Hindus, may also be a factor.
