Women are skipping breast scans over fear of taking their top off, NHS survey reveals

An NHS survey of 2,000 women revealed 83 per cent would attend a breast screening appointment (pictured, file photo) if they were invited but 16 per cent either would not go or were not sure.

A survey by the NHS has found that many women are avoiding breast screenings due to fears of embarrassment from being topless, concerns about pain, or believing screenings are only for those with symptoms. The NHS aims to boost attendance from 70% to 80%, which could lead to nearly a million more women being screened and 7,500 more early breast cancer detections. To encourage participation, the NHS has launched a campaign featuring letters and videos from survivors like Julia Bradbury and Victoria Derbyshire, and offers practical advice to ease concerns.
