Wyc Grousbeck still senses he’ll be involved with Celtics for ‘good period’ after sale

Wyc Grousbeck, the current governor of the Boston Celtics, believes he will remain involved with the team for a significant period after the sale. The Celtics announced in July that Grousbeck would stay as governor for a time after the new ownership group's initial payment. During the bidding process, Grousbeck expects a transitional phase, stating, “we’re going to have a good period of staying in and then transitioning and trying to do the best thing for the Celtics.” The team's statement confirmed he would remain until the second closing of the sale. However, ESPN's Tim Bontemps and Brian Windhorst expressed skepticism, comparing the situation to Mark Cuban's sale of the Mavericks, suggesting the new owner would likely control the team. The Grousbeck family anticipates four or five bidders, narrowing to two, with a decision expected in early 2025. Grousbeck noted strong interest when speaking in November.
