Dentists can detect recent oral sex (within 3 days) by observing palatal petechiae, pinpoint-sized red or purple marks on the roof of the mouth. While usually harmless and resolving within seven days, persistent petechiae may warrant further investigation for underlying medical conditions. Dentists often note the condition without comment unless it persists. Palatal petechiae is more serious with childern as it can be a sign of abuse.
