Ukrainian leader resists US plan to take over plants and says Putin must stop ‘unnecessary demands’ as Starmer considers use of UK troops as ‘deterrence force’
Following a phone call with Donald Trump, Volodymyr Zelensky affirmed that all Ukrainian nuclear power plants belong to Ukraine, denying discussions about US ownership despite reports suggesting Trump proposed a US takeover of the energy infrastructure. Zelensky stated they discussed finding a solution to reclaim the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzhia plant and committed to working with the US to prevent attacks on civilian infrastructure. Zelensky also addressed Russia's attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure and agreed in principle to a limited ceasefire with Russia.
