MOL Group's profit before tax decreased by 23% year-on-year in 2023, amounting to $1.936 billion, primarily due to external factors such as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war, regulatory changes, and high energy costs. The downstream segment, which includes refining, faced challenges due to declining refining margins and operational issues at the Bratislava refinery. However, the upstream segment, focusing on oil extraction, saw positive results driven by favorable pricing and increased production volumes. Despite these challenges, the company maintained stable operations and expects ongoing instability in the energy sector. MOL anticipates a pre-tax profit of approximately $1.6 billion in the coming years and remains committed to securing stable energy supplies.
