On March 22, 2025, Turkish police detained over 340 protesters overnight in Istanbul, Ankara, and other cities, who were demonstrating in support of Istanbul's mayor Ekrem Imamoglu, detained on March 19 amidst an anti-corruption investigation. Protesters believe the investigations against Imamoglu, a political opponent of President Erdogan, are politically motivated. Prosecutors cited illegal financing related to Imamoglu as justification for the detention.
