2 critically injured, up to 20 displaced after fire at Burnaby supportive housing building

Capt. Paul Rushton, a fire information officer with the Burnaby Fire Department, said the call came in around 3 a.m. for a fire at 7272 Kingsway Ave.



An early morning fire at a Burnaby supportive housing building on Kingsway Ave. resulted in two people critically injured and up to 20 displaced. Thirteen residents were hospitalized, with 48 firefighters responding. The fire, which started around 3 a.m. on the fourth floor and spread to the twelfth, is under investigation. Lithium-ion batteries complicated the firefighting efforts. The building lacked sprinklers.
