Cyclone Garance caused widespread devastation and five deaths in Réunion on February 28, 2025, leading to the declaration of a natural disaster state across all 24 communes on March 12th. This declaration enables insurance claims, but the Minister of Overseas Territories, Manuel Valls, considers it insufficient and requests further review to accurately reflect the extent of the damage. The state has allocated €200 million to assist affected communities.
