African nations are strengthening cybersecurity through stricter data laws, with 39 out of 55 countries now having data privacy legislation. While progress is evident, awareness and enforcement gaps remain. Kenya, Nigeria, and South Africa lead the way, while others lag. Data protection is crucial for trust in the digital space. Companies are proactively complying, and aligning data protection with fintech and crypto regulations. In 2025, increased enactment and updates to data protection laws, stronger enforcement, regional collaboration, and focus on vulnerable groups are expected, potentially positioning Africa as a global leader in data security.
