Alberta steps up efforts to keep invasive aquatic species out of the province

The government of Alberta is stepping up enforcement efforts to keep the province free of zebra mussels and other invasive species.

Alberta is increasing efforts to prevent invasive aquatic species, like zebra mussels, from entering its waterways by expanding inspection stations, tripling K-9 inspection teams, and adding dip tank decontamination systems. The province will invest $5.4 million annually for three years, plus $2.1 million in capital funding, to protect its ecosystems.
