Alleged Abbey Gate Plotter Was Released from Prison After Biden Abandoned Bagram and Two Weeks Before Bombing

An affidavit released Wednesday revealed that an alleged architect of the 2021 Abbey Gate suicide bombing that killed 13 American service members in Afghanistan was released from prison just two weeks before the attack -- which coincides with when thousands of prisoners were released from the Bagram Air Base after the Biden administration abandoned it. Mohammad Sharifullah, an alleged architect of the 2021 Abbey Gate suicide bombing, was released from an Afghan prison around two weeks before the attack. His release coincided with the Taliban taking over the U.S.-abandoned Bagram Air Base, where thousands of prisoners, including senior Taliban and Al Qaeda figures, were freed. The Trump Department of Justice's affidavit noted Sharifullah was imprisoned from 2019 until just before the bombing. The Biden administration's withdrawal from Bagram has been criticized for exacerbating the chaos that enabled the attack.
