Audit: Drugs, gun missing from evidence room of troubled Alabama police department

Dozens of oxycodone pills, other drugs and a handgun were among the items missing from the evidence room of a troubled Alabama police department

An audit of the Hanceville, Alabama Police Department evidence room revealed missing drugs, including 67 oxycodone pills, 39 gabapentin pills, 1.5 grams of cocaine, and a .25-caliber handgun, along with approximately 30 undocumented firearms. The audit follows indictments against four officers and the police chief for evidence mishandling, and a grand jury recommendation to disband the department. The Cullman County Sheriff's Department has assumed law enforcement duties.
