A group of about 100 trans rights activists descended on the Community Education Council for District 2 meeting in Manhattan on February 26 and performed the Macarena.
Trans rights activists protested a New York community education council meeting by performing a slow, out-of-rhythm version of the Macarena, disrupting speakers and causing meetings to focus less on academic issues. The group, led by teacher Alaina Daniels, aims to support trans futures and has been demonstrating for over a year against the school's policy on transgender athletes.
