Bank of England head had ‘clear impression’ that Staley was ‘close’ to Epstein

Andrew Bailey, who was chief executive of the Financial Conduct Authority from 2016 to 2020, appeared at the Upper Tribunal in London on Friday.

Bank of England Governor Andrew Bailey testified that he had a "clear impression" former Barclays head Jes Staley had a close relationship with Jeffrey Epstein, despite Staley's claims to the contrary. Staley is challenging the FCA's fine and ban for misleading the regulator about the relationship. The FCA contends Staley acted "recklessly and without integrity," while Staley maintains he never concealed the relationship and the correspondence with Epstein was business related.
