B.C. court voids ‘cult’ marriage, finding young woman didn’t ‘truly consent’ to it

The ruling found the marriage voidable, saying the man 'pursued, harassed, and perhaps even stalked' the teenager who was under duress when the wedding occurred in Abbotsford, B.C.

A British Columbia court annulled the marriage of a woman to a member of an India-based group, finding she didn't genuinely consent due to manipulation and duress from the man and his family. The judge cited the woman's youth, harassment, and threats of community wrath as factors in deeming the marriage "voidable."
