B.C. snowpack at 73% of normal, renewing drought, wildfire, electricity concerns

The BC River Forecast Centre's latest Snow Survey and Water Supply Bulletin says the provincial snowpack was at just 73 per cent of normal for March 1.

British Columbia's snowpack is at 73% of normal, raising concerns about renewed drought conditions and increased wildfire risk. This below-average snowpack may impact the province's electricity supply, which relies heavily on hydroelectric dams. While some regions have significantly low snowpack (e.g., Chilcotin at 16%), others are near normal (e.g., Liard at 98%). BC Hydro reports adequate snowpack in key basins to support electricity generation.
