Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club: 'Fighting fund' hits £14,000 target

The Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club's "fighting fund," launched to secure its future as a community-owned LGBTQ+ venue threatened with eviction, surpassed its initial £12,000 target, reaching over £14,000. The Friends of Bethnal Green Working Men's Club are now aiming for an extended goal of £18,000 to develop a business plan and cover related costs, hoping either Tower Hamlets council will purchase and lease back the club, or allow them to buy it themselves. The club, declared an asset of community value, faces potential closure from its owners despite local support and a prior petition against closing.
