Astronaut Butch Wilmore photographed a rare Blue Jet sprite from the International Space Station (ISS). The image was shared by fellow astronaut Don Pettit on Reddit. Blue Jets are upward-shooting lightning that reach up to 80 kilometers high, nearing the Karman Line (the boundary between Earth's atmosphere and space). Scientists hope these images will help them better understand lightning.
