Border counties spend more than €1.6m on cleaning up illegal diesel sludge

Two local authorities obliged to undertake over 220 cleansing operations during last four years

These operations remove dye from rebated fuel, creating a hazardous waste product that is often dumped illegally, costing councils thousands of euros per incident.
