Breast cancer deaths rates for older women have been declining for years. Not anymore
Breast cancer death rates, previously declining, have stopped decreasing for women over 74 and also remain stagnant for women under 40. This is linked to increased diagnoses of advanced-stage breast cancer and is particularly affecting white women in both age groups, as well as Hispanic women ages 20 to 39, and Asian, Hispanic, and Native American women 75 and older. While overall breast cancer death rates have fallen since 1990, the rate of decline has slowed, and Black women continue to see declines across all age groups.
